Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of the placing and fixing of reinforcement materials including:

selecting and using relevant tools and equipment

completing formwork

completing concreting

checking stock of reinforcement materials for correct type and quantity against reinforcement schedule and details in plans/specifications

communicating effectively to clarify instructions/information

completion of housekeeping activities

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the placing and fixing reinforcement materials in a way that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

demonstrates completion of placing and fixing reinforcement materials that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing the placement and fixing of reinforcement materials to specification on different jobs and involving deformed bars, rods and mesh sheets


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when placing and fixing reinforcement materials:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

identifying and reporting on hazards

using operational tools and equipment safely and effectively

achieving project quality and accuracy

using JSA’s/JSEA/Safe work methods

site isolation and traffic control

planning and organising work activities

working with civil construction terminology

reading and interpreting engineering drawings

identifying steel reinforcement characteristics

identifying concrete characteristics and properties

using structural technology

using construction principles

identifying equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

using safety data sheet and materials handling methods

carrying out operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures
